A question bank is a set of questions from which you can choose when you are creating quizzes. Learn how to create, manage, and use a question bank.
Create a Question Bank
Step 1
Select the Quizzes tool in the pane on the left and then select the gear in the top right corner. Select Manage Question Banks.
Step 2
Select Add Question Bank in the top right corner.
Step 3
A new bank will appear in the center of the page. Type in title for the question bank and then hit Enter to save.
Step 4
To add questions, select the title of the question bank you just created.
Step 5
Select +Add a Question in the top right corner.
Step 6
Select the correct question type and then type in the question and answer options or the other various options based on the question type. Then select Update Question.
Step 7
Continue selecting +Add a Question to add more questions until the bank includes all of the questions from which you want to be able to draw.
Managing Question Banks
Step 1
Select the Quizzes tool in the pane on the left and then select the gear in the top right corner. Select Manage Question Banks.
Step 2
Select the title of the question bank you want to manage or edit.
Select Show Question Details to view the question and answer options instead of just the question.
To edit a question, hover your cursor over the top right corner of the rectangle for that question and select the pencil icon. Fix the question and then select Update Question.
Select +Add a Question to add more questions to the question bank.
Select Edit Bank Details to change the name of the question bank.
To move several questions to a different question bank, select Move Multiple Questions. Select the questions you want to move and then select the bank to which you want to move them. Select New Question Bank to add the questions to a bank you have yet to create. Then select Move Questions. The questions you selected will no longer be in the original bank.
To move an individual question to a different question bank, select move/copy question to another bank in the bottom right corner of that question's rectangle. Select the bank or select New Question Bank to create a new one. If you wish to copy the question rather than move it, select the Keep a copy in this question bank as well option. Then select Move/Copy Questions.
To delete the question bank altogether, select Delete Bank. Deleting a bank will not remove the questions from the quiz to which they were added.
To delete just an individual question, hover your cursor over the top right corner of the rectangle for that question and select the X.
Select Bookmark this Bank to add it to the bookmarked banks page. This feature is useful when you have a few questions banks that you use often out of several banks in your course. To view the list of bookmarked banks, return to the Manage Question Banks page and select See My Bookmarked Banks.
To align an outcome with the question bank, select Align Outcome. Find the outcome and then select Import. For more information on outcomes, go to Instructure Guide: Outcomes.
Use Question Banks
Step 1
Create a new quiz or open the quiz to which you want to add questions. Select the Questions tab and then select Find Questions. If you already have questions in your quiz, this option will be at the bottom of the list of questions.
Step 2
Select the question bank with the questions you want in the pane on the left. The questions in that bank will appear on the right side of the window. Select Select All at the top to select all of the questions. Select Clear All to deselect all of the questions again. To select/deselect individual questions, select the box next to the question.
Step 3
Once you have selected the questions you want to add to your quiz, scroll to the bottom. If you want to add the selected questions to a question group, use the drop-down menu to select one or create a new one. Go to http://guides.instructure.com/searches?utf8=%E2%9C%93&text=question+group&commit=Search to learn more about questions groups. Then select Add Questions.
Step 4
The questions you selected will automatically appear. To add more questions from the same or a different question bank, select Find Questions again. Select Save & Publish to make the quiz visible to your students, or select Save to save the quiz in draft state.
Oh no! Your students just took a quiz/exam in Canvas, but you didn't realize that a question had the wrong answer marked until afterward! Don't worry. Canvas has a regrade feature that allows you to fix the answer and reward the correct score to your students all at once.
NOTE: Questions that are part of a question bank cannot be regraded as outlined in this tutorial because the questions may be used in more than one question bank.
For more information on regrading quizzes, visit the Instructure tutorial.
Step 1
Open the quiz that needs to be fixed in edit mode and then select the Questions tab at the top.
Step 2
Find the question that has the wrong answer and select the pencil icon.
Step 3
Select the green arrow next to the possible answer that is correct. A new window with REGRADE OPTIONS will appear.
Step 4
Select the option that is appropriate for the situation. Then select Update.
NOTE: Available regrade options vary with the question type.
Step 5
Select the blue Update Question button to save your changes.
Step 6
Scroll to the bottom and select Save to apply the change to your students' scores.
Your students will be notified about the regraded question and will be able to see their scores before and after you regraded the question.
