Description:

Primary Purpose Recruit, identify, and deliver program services to eligible 9th - 12th grade students from target schools leading to successful post-secondary enrollment.

Key Responsibilities Recruitment and documentation of 60 UBMS students (20%) Responsible for recruitment of potential participants & securing appropriate documentation for client eligibility. Maintaining accurate & confidential records for students to ensure compliance with federal requirements, (yearly IAP, transcripts, test scores, scholarships, GPA, events attended, admissions, financial aid received, etc). Ongoing review of student caseload including student progress, documentation of students who have moved or left the program. Assist with reports, particularly the Annual Performance Evaluation for the federal DOE.

Academic Year Planning & Summer Planning (65%) Provide leadership for UBMS STEM activities and workshops. Provide academic assistance at target schools, such as class selection for high school, study skills, goal setting, time management, career interest inventories, and technology. Develop and maintain working program services as outlined in the federal grant. Provide information and assist students with post-secondary opportunities including admissions, college registration, FAFSA, scholarships, ACT/SAT/COMPASS testing, course selection. Provide leadership, coordinate activities, maintain discipline, assist with program development and serve as on-site Residential Coordinator during the 6-week summer program on the ISU Pocatello campus.

Workshops, events, & college visitations, (10%) Develop, coordinate and participate in parent nights, career field trips, college campus visits, financial aid nights, service learning events emphasizing STEM programming. Inform all students of event details.

Additional Duties (5%) Actively develops relationships with schools personnel, businesses, and community agencies for partnership in student’s academic achievements, STEM activities and for advancement of the program. Provide follow-up of program services to target school personnel. Coordinate with other TRIO staff to ensure program compliance and success.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or Education with an emphasis in a STEM related field. • Knowledge of student development theories related to retention and graduation of at-risk students. • At least 2 years experience with TRIO or similar programs. • Professional experience that includes postsecondary advising, career development, study skills, and/or completing a rigorous curriculum. • Demonstrated ability to network within the educational arena and/or community partners and collaborate across programs. • Knowledge of current high school student retention and learning strategies. • Demonstrated ability to provide proactive recruitment and advising to meet the needs of underrepresented students.

Preferred Qualifications • Knowledge of curriculum or services needed to advise students about postsecondary education. • Overcome barriers similar to those of project participants. • Experience developing and/or teaching STEM activities. • Familiarity with educational institutions and community resources in the target area.
