Description:

The mission of Best Friends Animal Society is to end the killing of animals in shelters across the country. Best Friends works to accomplish this mission through implementing no-kill initiatives and programs and partnering with other organizations across the nation. Best Friends Animal Society began with the animal sanctuary located in Kanab, Utah, which is now the largest no-kill animal sanctuary for companion animals in the nation, and it has expanded to include adoption centers and spay/neuter clinics in several large cities across the country.

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, located in Kanab, UT, offers a 5-Week General Animal Care Internship program for people who are interested in hands-on work with animals in a sanctuary setting. Interns spend one week in each of the following animal areas: DogTown, Cat World, Horses/Pigs, Parrots, and Rabbits. Participating in the daily routine of the sanctuary gives interns an excellent opportunity to learn about animal care, socialization of animals, animal behavior and animal rescue. Sessions are 5-weeks and various start dates are available throughout the year. The program is open to individuals ages 20 and over who may be pursuing a career in an animal-related field or perhaps considering a career change. Internships are unpaid; however, we do have scholarships and stipends animal care interns can apply for to assist with housing and travel.

Qualifications:

-Interest in animal welfare issues and animal care; -Works well with people (i.e., visitors, volunteers); - Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) -Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and cleaning -Dependable -Reliable
