The Assistant Director is a member of the Student Recruitment & Outreach (SRO) leadership team within the Office of Admissions and oversees all aspects of the Office of Admissions’ Marketing and Communications area. This position will contribute to the overall recruitment and enrollment efforts for the Office of Admissions by assisting in the development, implementation, and assessments of policies, programs, and financial objectives for the SRO division; ensuring continuity and quality of all marketing and communication efforts for the office and campus partners aimed at attracting and matriculating new students to the University of Utah; and overseeing the human resource management within the Marketing and Communications team.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full time, 40 hours/week. Exempt. This position is required to work some evenings and weekends.

COMPENSATION: $45,000 to $47,800 DOE. Strong benefit package including tuition reduction program, retirement and health plan options.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Responsible for the recruitment, training/development, supervision, evaluation, and retention of three full-time, professional staff members (marketing & communication coordinators). 2. Utilize best practices to develop, implement, and manage the Marketing and Communications area’s strategies and tactics, which are in alignment with other office efforts, to achieve the strategic goals of the Office of Admissions and the university. Effectively assess the impact and success of strategies and tactics through collecting and analyzing various types of data and use data to recommend and implement improvements and changes to existing efforts. 3. Develop and manage area budgets congruent with the Office of Admissions recruitment strategies/goals. Be able to justify expenditures with appropriate documentation, as well as research, identify, and propose cost savings measures. Monitors purchases to ensure compliance or all University fiscal policies, oversees billing accuracy and coordinates timely processing of all invoices. 4. Model and utilize best practices of inclusion, equity and diversity exemplified in many ways, including staff hiring and development, setting priorities, and daily/long-term interactions with colleagues at the university and beyond, the Assistant Director should be an exemplar of the University’s values and goals in this key role. 5. Facilitate cooperative and collaborative relationships with campus units (i.e. academic departments and colleges and student affairs units) to further support the mission of the Office of Admissions. Serve as the primary liaison between the Marketing and Communications area and University Marketing and Communications. 6. Oversee the production schedule for all marketing and communication projects for the office and our campus partners and ensure projects stay on schedule and budget according to the strategic communication plan. 7. Ensure all marketing and communication projects are production ready prior to sending to the Director and Associate Director for final approval. 8. Assist with area’s daily activities including: copy writing/editing, website maintenance, and the creation and execution of marketing and communications projects. 9. Participate in office recruitment/yield activities and special events. 10. Ensure department functions continue during staff turnover. 11. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.

Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

PREFERENCES: Master’s degree, with preference given to degrees in Marketing or Communication. Three to five years full-time experience working in marketing and communications. Exceptional writing skills with extensive experience with copy writing and editing for multiple communication formats and a strong attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and find solutions to issues that may arise. Proven success in developing, executing, and assessing multi-channel communication plans. Ability to communicate complex information to of individuals and groups from a variety of diverse background. Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience working in a higher education environment particularly in new student recruitment and/or admissions. Understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities for marketing to prospective university students and other key influencers in the college decision-making process. Demonstrated experience with supervising staff; managing budgets; working with CRM systems to deploy communications; employing social media for marketing purposes; maintaining websites; and utilizing the Adobe Suite of programs. Capable of working independently and as part of a team. Possess a valid driver’s license at time of employment.
