Description:

The Office of Institutional Analysis seeks applications for the Data Architect. We are seeking someone who can lead the Data & Reporting team efforts, from gathering requirements all the way through implementing final data structure processes.

The Data Architect will report directly to the Director of Institutional Analysis and will work closely with the Manager of Research and Analysis in supporting office projects and goals. The incumbent will be responsible for executing the Director’s vision for the Data & Reporting Team. This position may represent the Office by serving on various committees or through other interaction with the larger campus community. This position will work closely with the Business Intelligence team to ensure proper data requirements, structures, and processes. This position requires extensive knowledge of university data and reporting used in higher education. The position also requires a strong foundation in project management best practices as well as database processes, procedures, and maintenance. The incumbent has the responsibility of managing the day-to-day operations of the Data & Reporting Team, including supervising projects and coordinating staff members and resources to support the mission and strategic goals of the Office.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, 40 hours/week, M-F 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful incumbent will have experience and skills in two areas – database theory and project management. The Data Architect oversees the operations of the Data & Reporting team. This team is charged with the managing, structuring, processing, and storing of all of the data used by the Office. Additionally, this team has process ownership of all Federal, State, and other external agency reporting required of the Office. The incumbent directly supervises the work of 3 analysts and will work with other staff within the entire Office of Budget and Institutional analysis to create efficiencies and innovative solutions.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Four years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of database theory, design, and project management. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department.

PREFERENCES: • Masters or Doctorate Degree in relevant technical or quantitative discipline • 3-5 years of experience in an Institutional Research or IT office with a high level of responsibility or demonstrated increasing responsibility. • Strong understanding of project management principles and best practices. • Demonstrated proficiency in SQL, Tableau, and/or PeopleSoft. • Ability to work independently with minimum oversight. • Excellent written and personal communication skills. • Ability and desire to supervise and train employees including prioritizing and scheduling work assignments. • Supervisory experience within an Institutional Research or IT office. • Experience using statistical software (SAS, SPSS, R) for data mining or analysis purposes.
