Description:

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the performance, integrity and security of all company databases. They will be involved in the planning and development of the databases as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users.

This position will make sure that the databases have the following qualities:

Data remains consistent across the database; Data is clearly defined; Users access data concurrently, in a form that suits their needs; There is provision for data security and recovery control (all data is retrievable in an emergency).

MAJOR FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast responses to front-end users Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database Considering both back-end organization of data and front-end accessibility for end-users Refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model Further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements Installing and testing new versions of the DBMS Maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata) Controlling access permissions and privileges Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans Ensuring that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly Capacity planning Working closely with IT project managers, database programmers and multimedia programmers Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security Commissioning and installing new applications and customizing existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose Monitor SQL Servers in Production and Test environment Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues Create/Modify SSRS reports Troubleshoot and resolve issues with SSIS Troubleshoot and resolve alerts Provide on-call support Code deployment to Production and Test environment Adhere to team priorities and work well in an integrated developer/tester environment Manage and support company financial and manufacturing systems (ERP)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Capable of Sitting for up to 8 hours a day.

Capable of walking distances

Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Management, Computer Science, IT or related field or equivalent experience in information services Master’s degree preferred

Computer Requirements

Strong computer skills are required including familiarity with Windows-based programs such as Microsoft productivity tools (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook) Experience with database design and development Good working knowledge of IP and DNS · Comfortable in a Linux environment Experience debugging live websites Strong written and oral communication skills Understanding of Cross Browse Testing Bash scripting Cron job setup and implementation Adobe ColdFusion development experience · HTML5 / CSS3 · User Interface design practice Ability to read and understand sever access and error logs

Experience Required

Excellent verbal and written communication skills required Must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing Must be able to meet deadlines and work within given time frames Working in Microsoft SQL server databases Working in company ERP system Fixing ODBC connection issues Installing client software Writing and creating various reports Working with internal apps which display information on intranet websites

Experience Preferred

Experience in a manufacturing setting necessary Strong technical understanding of ERP systems and IT infrastructure systems including telecommunications, PC management and networks Comfortable with investigating and evaluating the functions and capabilities of new technologies and vendor management
