Description:

The Pre-Award Office in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Grants/Contract Officer. The Grants/Contract Officer assists Principal Investigators within the Department of Pediatrics by performing administrative and technical functions associated with grants and contracts from external funding sources. The Pre-Award Grants/Contract Officer will provide professional guidance to Principal Investigators through the Pre-Award process including funding opportunity eligibility, proposal preparation, budget development, submission, post-submission actions, and award transition.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m.

COMPENSATION: $39,300 to $54,000/year DOE. Strong benefit package including tuition reduction program, generous leave accrual, retirement and health plan options.

RESPONSIBILITIES: • Administers Pre-award activities related to sponsored projects to maximize funding opportunities and limit financial deviations. • Works closely with Department of Pediatrics Faculty and Project Teams as well as the other Pre-Award Office Team members to implement the pre-award grant application processes, including regulation and compliance analysis, subcontract processing, proposal coordination, and criteria development and review. • Works closely with Division-specific Pediatrics Post-Award Financial Management teams to ensure that funded grants and contracts transition effectively from Pre- to Post-Award. Provides compliance-related guidance to the Post-Award Financial Teams and Project Teams through the lifetime of the award or contract. • Ensures proper internal and external documentation is maintained, organized, and accessible for all projects. • Serves as a liaison between the Investigator and Research Administration entities throughout the University, including the Office of the Vice President for Research, Office of Sponsored Projects, Clinical Trials Office, Institutional Review Board, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Technology & Venture Commercialization, etc. • Maintains current knowledge of expanding and changing federal, state, and University laws and requirements governing externally funded grants and contracts.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; two years’ experience working with federal or private funding agencies on grants, contracts, or other agreements (preferably within an academic or higher education complex), or equivalency; the ability to work effectively and efficiently under extreme pressure; and demonstrated communication and organizational skills required. Eight years of work experience in administration, accounting and/or general office supervision can be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree.

PREFERENCES: • Experience working with federal or private funding agencies on grants, contracts, or other agreements, preferably within an academic or higher education complex. • Previous Pre-Award specific experience. • The ability to work effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines. • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office. • Demonstrated ability to work effectively autonomously and in a team environment. • Demonstrated communication and organizational skills.
