Description:

Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of a training program for new and existing Internal Medicine clinical research staff. Will develop procedures or guidelines for the initial and continued education of clinical research staff. Will organize training events, develop training materials for distribution and reference, and will conduct in-person training for clinical research coordinator staff. Will assist the Clinical Research Medical Director in development and implementation of training program for new faculty investigators and ongoing clinical research investigator training and education. Will contribute to departmental efforts to ensure compliance with GCP, FDA, IRB and University regulations and policies. Will support Internal Medicine’s Associate Director for Clinical Research Compliance with the internal audit program, ClinicalTrials.gov, SOP development, etc. This position reports to the Internal Medicine Associate Director for Clinical Research Compliance.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Develop and maintain a training program for new Internal Medicine department clinical research staff, including courses and topics from the Research Administration Training Series (RATS), applicable federal regulations and Good Clinical Practice guidelines. 2. Oversee, track and document completion of the training program for new study coordinator and clinical research coordinator hires. 3. Develop training materials and presentations for initial and continuing education for clinical research staff. 4. Organize training and continuing education events for clinical research staff. Conduct individual coordinator and group-training on various topics of regulatory and clinical research operations. 5. Working with clinical research managers and coordinators, develop responses and corrective action plans, including training or re-training, in response to reported deviations, monitoring findings, audit findings, etc. 6. Assist the Clinical Research Medical Director and Associate Director for Clinical Research Compliance in the development and oversight of initial clinical research training and continuing education for faculty investigators. 7. In partnership with the Associate Director for Clinical Research Compliance, conduct audits on investigator-initiated trials, consortium trials and other studies without external monitoring oversight. 8. Identify areas and processes of clinical research in need of improvement from the internal audit program and other sources; develop standard operating procedures, work practices or guidance to address those needs and oversee training and implementation of process improvements. 9. Work with investigators, study staff and the Internal Medicine Associate Director for Clinical Research Compliance to ensure adherence to ClinicalTrials.gov regulations.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences or related field with two years professional research experience and completion of University RATS Clinical Certification within one year of hire required. Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

PREFERENCES: • Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP, CCRC, CCRA, etc.) • Prior experience with coordinating clinical trials and with University of Utah clinical research applications (ERICA, uTRAC, etc.) • Prior experience with Institutional Review Board requirements and procedures • Strong written and oral communication skills • Training or teaching experience
