The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is recruiting for a full-time Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist for State Hospital South in Blackfoot. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced rehabilitation professional dedicated to development, implementation, and evaluation of recreational therapy programs and activities for psychiatric patients at State Hospital South.

This position requires certification through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation as a Therapeutic Recreational Specialist. This will include having good knowledge of: therapeutic recreation theory, practices and methods; recreation activities and equipment and their suitability for handicapped/special needs clients; purpose and administration of assessment instruments; human growth and development patterns; AND a bachelor's degree or higher in therapeutic recreation or a major in recreation or leisure with an option in therapeutic recreation.

Responsibilities:

• Assesses patient social and activity skills; analyzes and interprets assessment results • Evaluates and documents patient progress • Conducts needs assessments as necessary • Reports observational and interpretive data to the Treatment Team • Participates as a member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team in the development of an individualized treatment plan for each patient • Develops, plans, implements and evaluates individual and group recreational therapy programming utilizing a variety of modalities as indicated • Provides social, leisure, and recreational skill development activities and psychiatric rehabilitation services • Oversees, coordinates, and assists staff and volunteers in planning and conducting recreational and rehabilitation services both on and off hospital grounds • Provides professional training and consultation for clinical and nursing staff in areas of therapeutic recreation, leisure skills, activity therapies, and psychiatric rehabilitation • Presents in-service training on areas of expertise

Minimum Qualifications:

• Certification through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation as a Therapeutic Recreational Specialist • Experience developing recreational therapy treatment goals for clients • Experience planning and conducting individual and group therapy sessions
