THIS INTERNSHIP IS BASED OUT OF PIPE SPRING NATIONAL MONUMENT

This intern position is with the Interpretation & Visitor Services Program. Interpretation is the art of making the history and significance of a place come alive for visitors. Interpreters at Pipe Spring guide tours of the historic fort and present talks and demonstrations on Native American and pioneer crafts and activities. Other duties include welcoming the public in the visitor center, providing information about the monument and surrounding public lands, collecting entrance fees, cleaning historic buildings, helping care for livestock, and maintaining the historic scene by working in the garden and orchard.

Training will be provided. The position offers opportunities for cross-training and experience working with a variety of mentors and specialists including resource management (vegetation, archaeology, wildlife, hydrology, museum management, and historic preservation), administration, and maintenance staff. Start/end dates are flexible.

Academic disciplines and areas of interest related to this position: history, botany, biology, archaeology, communication skills, and working with people.

Qualifications:

Candidates must enjoy sharing information with the public in a visitor center, outside, and inside historic structures; have knowledge about the cultural and/or natural history of the Southwestern United States; want to be part of a team; interest in working in a garden and with livestock.
