Description:

Primary Purpose The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for oversight, coordination, and growth of all Marketing and Communications for the KDHS and the College of Pharmacy. The position is shared between the KDHS and the College of Pharmacy. The KDHS, which includes the College of Pharmacy, the School of Nursing, the School of Health Professions, the School of Rehabilitation and Communication Sciences and the Office of Medical and Oral Health. The position will support/promote all of these units. The Kasiska Division of Health Sciences (KDHS) is the largest educational unit of Idaho State University (ISU). The KDHS graduates more than 1/3 of all ISU students and offers 41 degrees and certificates. Made of 20 different health related programs, 15 clinics, five major academic units, the KDHS has a highly varied audience, scope, and set of goals. The mission of the KDHS is to provide leadership in the delivery of rural health care by educating caring and competent professionals across all dimensions of health and promotes collaborative research and practice in the health sciences. The KDHS has a very large footprint in the Treasure Valley. The ISU-Meridian Campus offers 30 of our health-related programs and degrees. ISU occupies roughly 184,000 square feet of this building. The L.S. and Aline W. Skaggs Treasure Valley Anatomy and Physiology Laboratories (TVAPL) occupy approximately 22,000 square feet of the ISU-Meridian campus and is comprised of: 1) a Bioskills laboratory, 2) an anatomy instruction studio, 3) a gross anatomy laboratory, and 4) a virtual laboratory.

Key Responsibilities ·Demonstrate diplomacy and a team-oriented outlook. ·Implement KDHS Marcom strategic plan; planning and implementation. ·Develop plans for success for each unit and implement metrics to track success. ·Advocate for the KDHS wide-range of audiences; help educate audiences about our mission and the strengths of the KDHS. ·Write and distribute timely news releases covering new appointments, program highlights and meetings/scheduled events. ·Write feature and in-depth stories on a wide variety of topics related to KDHS. ·Research background data and interview sources to write for ISU Magazine. ·Post news releases to the ISU website and to all other online forums including social media outlets. ·Ghost-write letters and other communications for administrators. ·Provide support events including occasional help with photographs or videos. ·Arrange for leadership to make media appearances. ·Serve as primary liaison to ISU MarCom and participate in all meetings and MarCom committees as assigned. ·Provide strategic direction for improvements. ·Serve as the brand ambassador the KDHS. ·Grow and enhance social media support for the KDHS; improve social media reach. ·Manage social media account coordinators for each unit for the timely dissemination of news; work with each unit to train each social media coordinator. ·Ensure proper look and feel for KDHS webpages, and actively post content to webpages; provide training for others charged with updating web content. ·Provide support for large events across the KDHS and smaller events for subunits work with ISU MarCom on developing event materials; assist with post-event strategic follow including surveys and emails. ·Collaborate with the Directors of Development to align communications efforts with fundraising initiatives. ·Provide direction to Career Path Interns as they support departmental marketing efforts. ·Coordinate the bulletins and newsletters; train staff to use the template system.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, graphic design or related field and five years of relevant experience. • Experience with dealing with the media, including social media • Strong time-management skills, and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently on complex projects in high throughput, timeline intensive work environment often with tight deadlines • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including print media • Experience writing for web/electronic publication • Position requires availability for after-hours and weekend events and time-sensitive communications.

Preferred Qualifications • Professional experience with higher education • Ability to produce and edit video productions • Graphic design and photo manipulation (i.e. Photoshop, etc.) experience • Experience drafting and implementing strategic plan.
