Description:

Primary Purpose The specialist will assist in mathematics professional development for K-12 teachers in Idaho Education Regions 5 and 6. The specialist will be expected to drive to schools throughout their respective region(s) to develop and conduct mathematics professional development for K-12 mathematics teachers. Other responsibilities will include supporting schools in data analysis, developing improvement plans for teacher/school/districts, and working on other mathematics project duties as decided by the Idaho Regional Math Center team.

Key Responsibilities 1. Coordinate mathematics education initiative and programs 2. Collaborate with faculty in multiple colleges to develop, plan, and implement ambitious programs for the professional development for K-12 teachers of mathematics 3. Teach Teaching Mathematical Thinking 4. Provide classroom-embedded coaching to mathematics teachers 5. Provide ongoing mathematics professional support to K-12 teachers 6. Support teachers to implement Idaho State Standards 7. Provide opportunities for classroom teachers to form professional communities

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a closely related field of study • Minimum of three (3) years teaching mathematics • Ability and willingness to travel to both attend and facilitate professional development opportunities

Preferred Qualifications • Minimum of five (5) years teaching mathematics • Graduate degree in mathematics education, curriculum and instruction, or closely-related field • Demonstrated exemplary mathematics content knowledge for K-8 or 4-12 mathematics • Demonstrated ability to positively influence teacher behaviors • Leadership skills demonstrated by projects reflecting relationship-building among teachers, administrators, departments, etc., including evidence of fostering communication and collaboration within these groups • Demonstrated experience in planning, developing, and delivering professional development activities at the building, local, or state level that positively influenced mathematics teaching and student learning • Time management demonstrated by evidence of ability to effectively plan and complete multiple projects/tasks

Salary has been approved up to $32,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience. Includes a competitive benefits package.
