Description:

Would I be a good fit for the DI training program?

Associates working at Deseret Industries come with diverse faiths, backgrounds, and abilities. You may have no job skills at all or be a professional who has lost a job and needs to acquire new skills. You may need help re-entering the job market after a long absence. You may need to improve your English skills to find a good job. Whatever the reason, your talents will add to the success of others, and—DI is here to help you discover new abilities and opportunities.

Is there an age limit?

No one under the age of 16 can participate in the training program, but there is no upper age limit.

Will I be paid while I am enrolled in the DI training program?

The program is not a long-term employment option, rather an opportunity to receive compensation at minimum wage while you train. Associates work no more than 28 hours a week and are on average enrolled in the program for a period of 6 to 12 months.

How do I join the DI training program?

Visit with a bishop from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You do not need to be a member of the Church, but a bishop must provide you with a referral for an interview.

You may apply at your local Deseret Industries store after you receive your referral. Then, after an initial interview, you may be hired as an associate in the training program.

Once I am accepted into the DI training program, what next?

With expert career counseling, you set goals towards becoming a valuable employee in today’s job market. You are not alone in this effort, because DI surrounds you with a team dedicated to helping you achieve your new future. This team includes:

Development counselors—experts in vocational counseling. Job coaches—professional on-the-job trainers. Mentors—individuals assigned to offer encouragement and support, assisting associates with their goals. Church-service missionaries—volunteers who provide academic tutoring and job search assistance. And many others—including bishops, local businesses, community agencies, and education programs. Work at the Deseret Industries revolves around the day-to-day retail experience of a DI store, but our training is not about the stuff. Goods are used to help develop people. Associates develop on-the-job employment skills, and then, after proving themselves, are provided with opportunities for additional learning and experience. Opportunities might include pursuing more education or participating in a business partnership. For high performing associates, an Accelerated Job Search Program may be offered to help you transition into your new career.

Qualifications:

Individuals to not have to be members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to work here.

Temporary employment On-site training classes Access to funding to pay for off-site training Coaching and counseling to help with life and career development Paid internships Paid job search
