Description:

Season: 13 weeks; beginning January 2018 (beginning and ending dates subject to change) Work Schedule: 40 hours per week. Incumbent may work weekends and holidays. Housing: Park housing is available for rent through mid-April (and may be extended based on availability) Wage: $17 per hour Uniform: Zion Natl. Park Forever Project uniform. Transportation: Transportation provided for job-related duties. Personal transportation required to reach duty station.

This is a temporary position for the Zion Natl. Park Forever Project, a Zion National Park partner. The purpose of the position is to serve as a Lead Youth Program Instructor to conduct resource-based education (environmental education) and community outreach programs and activities.

Major Duties Acts as the lead in the development and operation education programs. Researches, designs, develops and conducts a variety of educational and interpretive programs and products aimed at specific audiences outside the unit. Plans and participates in the development, writing, production, and evaluation of educational materials. Assists with supervising volunteers, lower-ranking staff and interns who conduct programs or provide other services for visiting educational groups. Helps develop a variety of resources supporting non-personal services to promote and market resource-based education and outreach programs. These resources may include multimedia products, social media, site bulletins, newsletters, and articles for newspapers and periodicals. Serves as a liaison with schools, community their own resources for educational purposes. Tracks and records statistics and evaluation metrics for resource-based education and outreach programs. Performs other duties such as writing, editing, and media production. Additional frontline responsibilities may include performing roving assignments, providing orientation and information at contact stations, and completing assigned tasks and projects that support division operations.
One to two weeks of training will be provided, including orientation to relevant subject matter, the park and surrounding areas, resource issues, and interpretive skills.

Qualifications:

Required Knowledge and Skills Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, physical sciences, natural resources, or disciplines related to resource-based education such as education, history, and recreation. Master’s degree preferred. Skill and ability to mentor and train others in resource-based educational methods, techniques, and philosophies. Ability to speak professionally, and effectively communicate complex subject matter in an understandable way to a variety of audiences. Fully literate in computer and social media skills.
