Description:

Primary Purpose Idaho State University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor appointment in the Department of Political Science. The Department of Political Science has one of the largest graduate programs in the Idaho State University College of Arts & Letters. The appointment will begin in the Fall semester of 2018. This position carries a 3-3 course load of undergraduate and graduate courses. The candidate must also be able to teach one of the department’s introductory courses in political science. Faculty are additionally expected to have an active research agenda and carry out service obligations.

Key Responsibilities The department is looking for a candidate with the ability to contribute broadly to its undergraduate and three graduate programs (DA, MA, and MPA). The position carries a 3-3 teaching load of undergraduate and graduate courses. The candidate must be able to teach one of the department’s introductory courses in political science. The position also requires an active research agenda and service obligations.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications A doctorate in Political Science or Public Administration is required, ABDs finishing by August 2018 will be considered. The candidate must also be able to teach one of the department’s introductory courses in political science.

Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate would demonstrate expertise in the following pair of political science subfields: (1) Public Administration and (2) US Politics, International Relations, or Comparative Politics. Because the candidate is expected to help develop and deliver courses within the Master of Public Administration program, the ability to teach general courses in public administration is essential. The ability to teach specialized courses such as Public Administration Ethics, Qualitative Methods in Public Administration, Introduction to Public Administration, Non-profit administration, and State and Local politics would be an asset. MPA courses are regularly broadcast via distance learning and the candidate will teach one or two such courses a year.
