THIS INTERNSHIP IS BASED AT DIXIE NATIONAL FOREST IN CEDAR CITY, UTAH

The Dixie National Forest is hiring one Geographic Information System (GIS) Intern for map development associated with road condition surveys and to assist in field data collection with Engineering Technician Interns; the office location is at 1789 North Wedgewood Lane in Cedar City and the starting hourly rate will be as qualified from the range of ($10.00- 14.07). The GIS work will be for making maps for our summer field data collection cycle. This internship will start in December with making maps for 15 different forest in the western US. Each week you will be required to work 5 to 20 hours. The program that will be used is ARC Map. This must be a skill of yours to be able to develop maps and data summaries with this program. The summer work will require travel in the summer at ALL times to multiple western states. The position being offered must be willing to travel across Intermountain region (Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado) surveying roads. During the summer the Intern will have a work cycle that will spend Monday through Saturday traveling and completing field work (72 hours), and then one day the next week (8 hours) completing office work and rest of the week off. This position has both field and office elements which are listed below. A thorough understanding or capability of each of these tasks is not required; but a positive attitude to an aptitude to learn and apply new skills is essential.

Weekly Work Schedule –School Year till approx. May 1st: 5-15 Hours per week. Summer: Full time employment 72 hour every other week Monday through Saturday, and then the next Monday for 8 Hours is expected in the summer (May to August). We are expecting that this internship will be at least 2 years in duration.

Desired Qualifications – Students pursuing a degree related to Engineering or GIS, but not limited to these fields.

All internships must be tied to the earning of an academic credit. This can be an EDGE project, departmental internship, cooperative education, practicum, assignment, etc.
