Description:
Qualified candidate will have solid experience and understanding of Linux systems, virtual servers and hypervisors, and related language/scripting skills. The candidate will know how to apply best practices in these areas to corporate, international and cloud environments. The Systems Engineer will interface directly with development, business partners, support services, QA and others as needed. This role will support and maintain high availability systems in a production environment and the quality and integrity of other environments. Systems Engineers are engaged in projects and are expected to be active and willing participants working for a successful outcome. The candidate will work on multiple projects and tasks simultaneously so excellent time management and self-motivation skills are a must.
Researches and resolves technical issues found in production with immediate and long term solutions. Conveys problems, solutions, updates and project status to peers, customers and management.
Ability and willingness to work irregular and overtime hours.
Improves processes and tools to automate system provisioning, administer systems and accomplish other operational tasks. Works to enhance performance, stability and security of systems. Ability to create scripts, tools, utilities and/or code to accomplish objectives of new projects and to resolve existing operational issues.
Participates in IT infrastructure design with team.
Demonstrates excellent people skills while working with multiple departments including IT infrastructure, web development, QA, project management, business partners and peers.
Must be able to effectively plan and communicate system changes in advance and execute them competently. Mitigates issues when they arise in product and other environments.
Develops and documents procedures in order to share and preserve knowledge.
Must be able to break down complex projects into sub tasks, manage completion of each subtask and provide status updates to stakeholders.
Schedules and prioritizes work with manager and completes scheduled tasks on time. Takes responsibility for personal performance, works efficiently and manages time effectively.
Maintains currency with industry trends, technologies and methodologies. Takes responsibility for development of skills and talents related to career. Sets and accomplishes goals.
Qualifications:
8+ years Linux system administration, preferably Red Hat / CentOS Linux
2+ years VMware administration
5+ years shell scripting; PowerCLI, JSON, YAML and/or python is a plus
1+ years AWS services, specifically EC2, S3 and CloudFormation
Experience with system security, performance tuning, patching and troubleshooting
Experience with automated server provisioning
Excellent communication and writing skills
Collaborative and approachable personality
Preferred (not all are required but experience in at least some of these areas is necessary):
Experience with storage arrays, fiber switches and/or SAN configuration and administration
Experience with configuration management tools (Salt preferred)

TCP/IP networking knowledge
Experience implementing disaster recovery and high availability
Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
Education requirements:
4 year Computer Science or Information Technology degree or 5+ years of experience in a large corporate environment
