Description:

Qualified candidate will have in depth experience and understanding of Linux system administration, Java application development with deployment and in enterprise application monitoring. The System Engineer will interface directly with development, production support, and QA teams and maintain a high level of visibility with each group. This role will support and maintain the production environment along with the build and release processes which includes the supporting tools. System Engineers are engaged at the beginning of the project for setup of environments and build tools and will help to support and maintain the applications through their lifecycles. The candidate will work on multiple projects simultaneously; helping identify technical and governance similarities for best practices is a critical skill.

Researches and resolves technical issues found in production with immediate and long term solutions. Conveys problems, solutions, updates and project status to peers, customers and management

Improve process and tools to automate deployments and other operational tasks (i.e. monitoring application components) to improve efficiency and consistency. Knowledge to create scripts, tools, utilities and/or code to address issues with new projects and to resolve existing operational procedures (i.e. single-click deployments).

Participates in IT infrastructure design with team

Demonstrates good people skills working with multiple departments, including IT infrastructure, web development, IT load testing, project managers, business partners and peers.

Must be able to communicate system changes and mitigating possible issues that may affect production, etc. Ensure appropriate infrastructure changes are socialized across the development and QA teams and any required validation are planned in a timely fashion.

Develop and document procedures to share knowledge in a team environment.

Must be able to break down a complex project into sub tasks and manage the completion of each subtask and provide status updates to stake holders.

Schedules and prioritizes work with manager, and completes scheduled tasks on time. Takes responsibility for personal performance, works efficiently, and manages time effectively.

Maintains currency with industry trends, technologies, and methodologies. Takes responsibility for development of skills and talents related to career. Sets and accomplishes goals.

Qualifications:

5+ years of administering applications on Tomcat and/or other web application server environments 5+ years of experience administering Apache on Linux 5+ years of Linux administration working in an enterprise environment Experience with source code repository and deployment tools: SVN, Jenkins, Maven Proficient at writing in 2 or more of the following languages Bash, Perl, Ruby, Python, PHP, Java, etc. 5+ years’ experience with setting up, configuring and maintaining monitoring (Nagios and New Relic preferred) TCP/IP networking knowledge Excellent communication and writing skills Collaborative and approachable personality Experience with firewalls, web caching, security patching and SSL Experience working with Amazon Web Services Experience implementing Disaster Recovery and High Availability preferred. Knowledge of the QA process and QA automation tools is a plus. Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases is a plus
