Description:

Purposes The Business Intelligence team of the Church works with multiple departments to take their data and transform it into information that will allow them to make better decisions. We work with departments such as Temple, Publishing Services, Missionary, Finance, and Family History in hastening the work of the Lord.

A Database Engineer 6 is fully responsible for the systems and infrastructure which support a set of products. They are also responsible to give senior-level leadership to architectural and engineering efforts. Individuals in this position are deeply technical in the context of a category of technologies. The person in this role directs and guides the design in a way that ensures compliance with technical and architectural standards. They are capable of understanding and communicating the non-functional requirements which are necessary for successful product operation. Additionally, they ensure the implementation and transition into production happens smoothly. While the solution runs in production this person is responsible to resolve any problems or issues that are escalated to them. They engage vendors in the resolution of incidents as necessary, and once an incident is resolved they are responsible to ensure all defects in the system or process are identified, tracked, and resolved. This person ensures that all proposed changes have been adequately planned and reviewed eliminating the possibility of unplanned service outages. The person in this role mentors all other engineers in their portfolio. They are a leader.

This individual works with divine guidance to provide or support technology that furthers the mission of the Church and reflects the eternal impact of the gospel.

Qualifications:

Responsibilities This role will work with the Business Intelligence management team and committees to help define, architect, standardize and train best practice across the Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse solutions: • Gather and document requirement for the data warehouse. • Advanced knowledge of Kimball Dimensional Modeling techniques. • Advanced knowledge of Kimball data warehouse lifecycle. • Advanced knowledge of ETL best practices and enterprise ETL tools. • Advanced knowledge of Database technologies, both relational and no-sql. • Fulfilling technical lead role for engineering solutions. • Leading in creating standards for all ICS groups to follow. • Evaluating, recommending, purchasing, installing, testing, upgrading, and maintaining existing or proposed systems to structure and access database. • Training support personnel and systems users. • Creating standards and procedures for operations teams to follow. • Participate in discovery meetings. • Implement proof of concept systems (as needed). • Participate in prepare and commit meetings. • Design solution. • Design how the solution will be monitored and logged. • Provide resource estimates for project plans. • Create Project Plans. • Participate in iteration/sprint/project meetings. • Backlog Review. • Design & Develop Data Model. • Design & Develop both Data Services and Data Integrations • Perform code reviews.. • Create technical documentation. • Create production documentation (KBAs, run books, etc.).

Qualifications Qualifications: • Must be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, currently temple worthy. • Bachelors degree in related field or equivalent experience. Master’s degree preferred. • 12+ years relevant professional experience. • 4+ years of experience supporting product development activities and be capable of guiding technology decisions. • Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of multiple fields of specialization to the completion of significant assignments. • Proven exceptional leadership skills • Crosses fields. • Able to work as a member of a team to support business intelligence and data science needs throughout the organization. Plays well with others. • Ability to present and communicate complex ideas in simple terms. • Driven and a focused self-starter who can identify and tackle the most important analytical questions in the organization. • Ability to interact well in a team environment. • Excellent documentation and communication skills.

Experience: • Experience working in a structured enterprise-scale operational environment. The user-base supported should reach into the thousands. • Experience with Change, Incident, and Problem management processes. Strong operational understanding and discipline. • Exceptional communicator; both written and verbal • Demonstrated experience evaluating vendors and their products and be capable to identifying critical gaps in their offerings • Demonstrated ability to mentor and train her or his peers • Strong understanding of the business processes being supported by the solution • Outstanding troubleshooter, with the ability to think under pressure and drive the hardest problems to resolution • Skilled in developing ETL code, can manage the ingestion and cleansing of large sets of structured and unstructured data. • Superior organizational skills with a strong attention to details and deadlines and can effectively manage multiple projects/assignments simultaneously.

Worthiness Qualification Must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently temple worthy.
