The Division of Medical Genetics in the University of Utah, School of Medicine is seeking a skilled Nurse Practitioner to join their team. This clinical position will work the Metabolic and Genetics clinics at Primary Children’s Hospital and the University of Utah, focusing on the provision of care and treatment to patients with proven or suspected genetic disorders.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Nurse Practitioner will manage patients in the Metabolic and Genetic Clinics (Primary Children’s Hospital) 5-6 half-days per week, in parallel with the attending physician, Nurse Practitioners and other healthcare professionals (Genetic Counselors, Dietitians). This position will conduct patient evaluations, including obtaining histories, performing physical examinations, and formulating comprehensive care plans. They will also complete documentation and billing forms. Specific protocols are available for many of the genetic conditions followed in clinic. Patients will be discussed with the physician and other healthcare providers before, during and after clinics. The clinician will also assist in the evaluation and care of patients enrolled in clinical trials and in the follow-up of patients admitted to the hospital. When not actively seeing patients, the incumbent will be involved in patient care through phone call management, review of laboratory or radiology results, and care coordination activities, including communication with other providers. The clinician will also assist in screening referrals for priority. All clinical activities will be documented, in collaboration with the attending physician. This position will round routinely with the attending physician at Primary Children’s Hospital, once per week, where the incumbent will participate directly with the attending physician in patient care and documentation. The clinician will help coordinate care of children with complex, chronic conditions and participate in collecting data from patients attending the genetics and metabolic clinic for purposes of quality, program development and outcomes assessments.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS: Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah. Nationally certified as a Nurse Practitioner as required under State Law. Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria. Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area; and demonstrated leadership, teaching, research and communication skills are required. Utah State prescriptive privileges preferred. PREFERENCES: Prior experience in pediatrics and/or chronic condition management is desirable, although new graduates are welcome. Preferably, the individual will have demonstrated capacity to work independently as a clinician in a practice setting.
