Description:

The Center for Aging, Technology, and Translational Neurotherapeutics (ATTN) in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Clinical Research Coordinator. We are searching for a motivated, reliable, detail oriented and collaborative individual to assist with clinical research studies of neuroplasticity-based computerized interventions for elderly patients suffering from addiction and/or mood disorders. The coordinator will work closely with the principle investigator, the Center for Medical Innovation, other research staff, university administrators, and regulatory entities to ensure that all research activities are performed efficiently, ethically and in accordance with federal and university regulations policies and guidelines. This position includes a significant amount of supervised patient contact, and necessitates a sensitive, respectful, mature individual who will be committed to providing excellent care while they participate with our lab. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal, verbal and writing skills, previous research experience with human subjects, a strong interest in developing their clinical acumen with psychiatric patients, and an interest in developing skills in clinical research methods. An individual with programming experience is strongly preferred.

University of Utah Job ID# PRN15685B, Psychiatry - Research WORK SCHEDULE: Part-time, 20-29 hours/week, days. Flexible work schedule. COMPENSATION: DOE. Part-time benefits. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Conducts structured clinical interviews to assist in determination of patient diagnosis: administers and scores the SCID-IV on site. • Administers research battery of additional measures on depression severity, suicidality, cognitive functioning, medical comorbidity, physical functioning, social support, etc. • Tracks patients over time in follow-up assessments. • Administers computerized tasks to research participants during EEG sessions and MRI scans. • Also assists in the design of such computerized tasks. • Participates in inpatient unit rounds to recruit subjects and conducts research assessments on inpatient units • Assists with biophysical assessments: taking vitals, drawing/spinning blood samples, and assisting with EKGs. • Administers computerized interventions to participants as directed by the study protocol. • Alerts the principle investigator of any changes to participant’s clinical state. • Assists with the analysis and entry of data from MRI scans and computerized tasks. • Develops and prepares data collection sheets according to protocol requirements. • Reviews data for accuracy and maintains records of study data. • Attends team meetings to gather and present information. • Assists in preparation of research documentation including IRB protocols. • Contributes to developing educational materials and educates the community and other research professionals regarding studies and related research issues • Supervises, mentors and trains new or junior research staff. • Coordinates with referring physicians to provide information regarding available research protocols and maintains a strong referral basis.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences or related field with two years professional research experience and completion of University RATS Clinical Certification within one year of hire required. Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

PREFERENCES: • Preferred college degree in psychology, neuroscience, engineering, computer science or related field. • Prior programming experience is strongly preferred. (Matlab; EPrime; Python, etc.) • Prior research experience with clinical populations • Experience working with individuals suffering from mental health conditions. • Experience working with the elderly. • Desire to pursue a career in clinical research
