Description:

Primary Purpose

The Idaho State University (ISU) Veterans TRIO Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, has been created to assist qualified veterans develop necessary skills so they may enroll and succeed in post-secondary education opportunities. The program is designed to provide assessment and enhancement of basic skills through counseling, mentoring, tutoring and academic instruction and to provide academic instruction in core subject areas such as mathematics, laboratory science, literature and composition and foreign language.

The Director of the Veterans TRIO Program is responsible for serving 125 pre-college veterans each year, with enrollment being ongoing, and providing instructional and student support for the successful transition of program participants into post-secondary programs of study. Further, the incumbent will be responsible for planning and coordinating all program activities, supervising staff, grant reporting and fiscal management.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the development and implementation of the program. • Hire, train and supervise program staff. • Oversee the daily operations of the program and manage the grant budget. • Develop recruitment plans and manage the recruitment process plus document services according to federal guidelines. • Create and implement educational programs. • Provide advising and academic planning for students. • Evaluate program effectiveness, progress and success by tracking statistics, gathering required data and writing reports. • Other duties outlined within the grant.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in counseling, education, psychology, student personnel, public administration, business or a related field. • Experience with training others and leading a team. • Experience writing grants. • Experience working with programs focused on post-secondary placement. • Experience working with a diverse populations, specifically adult learners and veterans. • Knowledge of student development theories related to recruitment and retention of nontraditional college students. • Experience managing and expending federal grant monies in accordance with federal guidelines. • Experience monitoring day to day operations of a project and progress toward achieving grant goals and objectives. • Experience hiring, training and supervising staff. • Exhibit strong communications skills (verbal and written).

Preferred Qualifications

• Training and experience writing complex federal grants. • Experience with TRIO or TRIO-like programs. • Demonstrated ability to network with university departments and collaborate across programs.

The approved salary range is $50,000 - $53,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience. Includes a competitive benefits package.
