Job Summary:
Reporting to the CIO, the Director of the Project Management Office (PMO)
takes primary responsibility and provides overall leadership for developing,
managing, and improving the technology project intake process. The Director is
responsible for designing, implementing, and ensuring the use of a
comprehensive process for collecting, evaluating, scoring and securing funding
for business related projects and technology infrastructure projects.
The Director will have primary responsibility for the successful execution of
university technology projects. The Director will define and document
comprehensive, phased, and best practice based project management
methodologies and frameworks to successfully deliver a broad range of
projects. The Director will work with ITS and Gonzaga management to set
project performance targets and define and report metrics that measure
performance. The Director will implement best practice project processes and
tools to meet and exceed project performance targets. The Director will work
with project management, technical, and business staff to develop templates
and sample deliverables for all artifacts involved in the project management
process. The Director will train project managers on the process and monitor
compliance for all technology projects.
The Director will be well-versed in all aspects of a traditional project life-
cycle as well as other project management methodologies i.e., agile, scrum,
and RAD. The Director will assume delegated duties, be a leader who is a
critical thinker, and be ready to solve problems. The goal is to help the PMO
attain objectives of productivity and employee satisfaction. Understanding
that customer satisfaction is also essential.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business (equivalent experience may substitute for degree)

5-7 years of increasing technical project management experience

3 years managing programs with multiple project tracks
-
3 years of experience working in a mature PMO

Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision

Demonstrated knowledge of best practice project management methodologies and the advantages and risks of each

Knowledge of relevant PMO processes and procedures
-
Proficient in MS Office, MS Project, SharePoint and other relational databases and software
-
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills

Excellent organizational and leadership skills

Aptitude in problem solving

Business Process Analysis and mapping
Desired Qualifications:

Advanced degree in technology or business
-
Demonstrated experience managing technology initiatives in a higher education environment.

PMP certification highly desired.

Demonstrated experience improving the maturity of a technology management methodology.

Demonstrated experience working in and/or implementing an ITIL service management framework.
