Job Summary
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General
Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable Unmanned Aircraft Systems and
tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution
surveillance systems.
We have an exciting opportunity for an undergraduate student studying in
Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering to intern in Aircraft Engineering
Department. Project assignments will be in support of the aircraft Research
and Development (R &D) division of GA-ASI. The individual chosen for this
role will perform air vehicle conceptual design activities, including
development of corresponding tools and technologies.
Under supervision, the candidate will be working on projects with general
instruction and advanced projects with detailed instruction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop analysis tools, perform mathematical modeling, and provide aerodynamic design support for new aircraft and modifications to existing aircraft (fixed wing and/or rotorcraft).
- Assist in applying knowledge to analyze, investigate, and resolve non-routine problems.
- Assist in developing reports, records, drawings, and memos.
- Provide final report summarizing accomplishments during the internship & present to GA-ASI engineering staff, management, and peers.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering Majors
- Machine shop, composite shop, or wind tunnel experience
- Demonstrated problem solving on group projects such as AIAA Design/Build/Fly, Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Solar Decathalon
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Experience with composite materials and engineering mechanisms preferred.
- Familiarity with MS office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and excellent technical writing skills required.
- Familiarity with CREO or similar CAD/lofting software is required.
- Private Pilot's License or flight training is desired
- Aircraft home-building or model aircraft experience is desired
- Must possess the ability to understand new concepts and apply them accurately.
- Must possess the ability to follow general and detailed instructions as well as organizational policies and procedures.
- Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills to enable effective interface with internal professionals.
- Must possess the ability to work independently or in a team environment; and basic computer skills.
- Students graduating in Fall 2017 or Spring 2018 preferred.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA required.
