Who are we looking for?
Commercial Insurance Underwriter – Chubb Associate Program
We are currently seeking individuals for our Chubb Associate Program to join
our North American Commercial Insurance Team as Underwriters. This is a
training program and all candidates must be fully mobile anywhere in the U.S.
once their training is complete.
Underwriting Associates learn to analyze customer's insurance needs and
provide solutions to respond to them. Upon successful completion of our
training (may include self-study, computer-based training, classroom training,
and/or on-the-job development), an Associate will be expected to contribute to
team, center, and branch results by participating in the book of underwriting
business and supporting the more experienced underwriters.
Description:
- Develop proficiency in general insurance theories and practices as well as the specific unit underwriting strategies
- Develop an expertise in analyzing customer needs and develop insurance programs to meet those needs
- Contribute to the financial performance of the underwriting unit throughout the training period by assisting in the negotiating of price, coverage, and terms for renewals
- Analyze exposures, determining whether the risk continues to meet Chubb's underwriting criteria, proposing terms and pricing, and ensuring proper documentation
- Build relationships with agents and engage in marketing efforts
- Identify cross sell opportunities
- Meet with producers to make sales presentations including product education and new product roll out
- Collaborate with underwriters, operations, claims, marketing and home office product management
- Meet service standards consistently
- Collect and share industry intelligence with team, including industry trending and development
- Deal effectively with a wide variety of people
- Demonstrate an aptitude for evaluating, analyzing and interpreting information
- Demonstrate and utilize strong verbal and written communication skills
Program Start date will be July 2018 for this class.
Qualifications
- Proven track record of success with Sales, Marketing, and/or Negotiations
- Bachelor’s degree; many majors will be considered; slight preference to Risk Management, Business, or Computer Science
- Demonstrate potential to be entrepreneurial and manage a 4 to 6 million dollar book of business
- Demonstrated self-starter
- Strong time management and prioritization skills
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners
- Proven track record of superior performance and leadership
- Ability to be creative and adaptable in a changing business environment
- Demonstrated ability to develop creative, innovative solutions
- Balanced and timely decision making skills
- Aptitude for evaluating, analyzing and interpreting information
- Cultivate relationships with insurance agents and brokers in order to learn more about their clients’ needs and to encourage them to submit business that meets Chubb’s underwriting standards
- Investigate, evaluate, and analyze a diverse group of potential clients to determine if they meet Chubb’s criteria
- Learn the clients’ business well enough to develop appropriate terms, conditions, and prices for insurance contracts
- Negotiate with insurance agents and brokers in a way that meets the clients’ needs, while also achieving a profit
- Strong financial analysis skills strongly preferred
- Demonstrate adaptability/flexibility
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software
- Must be fully mobile anywhere in the U.S.
Relocation: The training process is for the term of approximately one year,
in either our Eastern Underwriting Center (Whitehouse Station, NJ) OR Western
Underwriting Center (Phoenix, AZ). After training is completed, relocation to
any one of our US branch offices is required. The ability and willingness to
relocate following the successful completion of the training process is a
requirement for this position.
