Description:
The primary focus of a Research Assistant supporting the FIA Information Management Cost Share Agreement will be to assist in development and operation of a student centered research program. This program is envisioned as a multidisciplinary project involving students interested in computer application development, software testing, GIS application development, and land management and monitoring processes.
Duties and responsibilities will include general information gathering, reporting, and working with UNLV and SUU staff on the DATIM Project. This will involve becoming familiar with an application on forest monitoring and reporting (DATIM). This will include reviewing and implementing application testing. The employee will be expected to be part of an application development and testing team lead by UNLV researchers and the SUU Principal Investigator.
Training will be provided upon hiring.
Assist the Principal Investigator with:
1. Various application testing including quality assurance and section 508 compliance testing.
2. Writing up monthly reports of progress and compiling them into an annual report format.
3. Attend and take notes for conference calls with FIA cooperators.
4. Attend project meetings and provide updates as needed.
5. Apply critical thinking skills to problem solve and create new projects.
6. Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Completion of a degree program preferably in the life sciences, multidisciplinary, or computer related program.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills required.
• Must be self-motivated and able to work unsupervised.
• Great communication skills both in person and in writing.
• Experience with land management agencies helpful.
• Experience with computer data base operations helpful.
• Experience with 508 access testing helpful.
