Position Description:
The Achievement Schools Network’s ESL Teacher will play a vital role in
building relationship with newcomer English Learners (EL) students, and
providing direct teaching service to returning EL in the five direct-run
schools, as is required by state and federal regulations. ****
Specific Position Responsibilities: ****

Create an educational environment that is conducive to learning and needs of students; prepare instructional materials for ESL classes following TN state content standards and WIDA standards; and provide written evidence of preparation to supervisor/administrator upon request.

Regularly check for newly enrolled Non-English Language Background (NELB) students in PowerSchool and by communicating with schools’ front office staff and classroom teachers.

Inform parents of students’ ESL status and update cumulative folders with signed forms before beginning ESL services.

Complete wida.us tests certification in a timely manner prior to administering assessments.

Administer the W-APT, WIDA Screener, and WIDA ACCESS to all eligible students in a timely manner as required by state regulations.

Establish a standard of classroom behavior and maintain classroom management.

Confer with teachers and school administrators at each school to develop class schedules to meet service hour requirements according to state and federal service regulations.

Regularly communicate with classroom teachers to provide scaffolding and differentiation; and to revise ELs accommodation in Language Support Plans (LSP).

Create a LSP for all ELs and former ELs in transition (T1-T4) to monitor academic progress; and train regular education teacher in understanding the LSP and ELs’ WIDA Can Dos.

Maintains accurate, complete and correct records in cumulative folders that include quarterly LSPs, signed forms, ESL assessment results, and all required documents according to state and federal regulations.

Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and ESL endorsement in the grade taught with a valid
Tennessee certificate. Must be highly qualified. Governed by the Rules and
Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated and the collective bargaining
agreement. Must be physically and mentally able to perform the
responsibilities and duties of the position.

Minimum Qualifications
Hold a Bachelor’s degree
Be eligible to work in the United States
Meet ONE of the following requirements:
o Be licensed and Highly Qualified by NCLB guidelines OR
o Be eligible to work on a transitional license (i.e. hold a degree/24 credit
hours in the subject area or pass the Praxis II exam in the subject area)

Salary and Benefits: ****
The salary range is 45,000 to 60,000. Pay will be commensurate with
qualifications. The benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, life,
disability, flexible spending accounts, and a retirement/pension plan through
the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS). ****
