The Deseret News (Salt Lake City, Utah), a 140,000-plus Sunday circulation, 60,000 daily has an immediate opening for a paid three month Summer Semester seasonal internship ($10/hr). The internship will start Tuesday, May 29, 2018, and will finish up in late August 2018.

We are a multi-platform newsroom, sharing resources with KSL-TV (NBC), KSL NewsRadio (ABC).

Applicants should have a well-rounded portfolio with at least one picture story. They should also be well-versed in PhotoShop, Photo Mechanic, and a non-linear video editing system such as Adobe Premiere or Final Cut. Interns will be required to shoot both stills and some video, be able to send pictures, multimedia and video remotely, and have the ability to write creative, accurate captions in under deadline pressure.

We are a morning newspaper, competing head-to-head with our JOA partner, The Salt Lake Tribune . Our 22 person photo staff (video and still) has continuously won numerous awards in regional and national NPPA clip contest, as well as NPPA's Pictures of the Year contest.

The News places a big emphasis on quality community journalism. There are also opportunities to cover PAC-12 sports, NBA and occasionally Olympic qualifying events.

Our interns are provided with a full set of Canon gear, partial cell phone reimbursement and a MacBook Pro with 4G Verizon hotspots. Interns must have reliable vehicles and you will be reimbursed for your mileage.
