Do you have an interest in international business? Do you have a passion for
organization? Are you fascinated by the global book publishing industry? Do
exchange rates, royalties calculations, and databases make your heart race? Is
your filing technique unstoppable?
We are a literary agency with close ties to the entertainment industry and we
looking for a subsidiary rights intern to assist with our growing business.
Duties will include
o Contract and royalties administration;
o Analysis of royalty reports and sales data (including employing conversion
rates for foreign currency);
o Analysis of sales and market penetration for international territories,
comparing with domestic as needed;
o Schedule meetings at international book fairs and assemble presentations
and relevant information for publisher pitches;
o Track, document, and respond to rights inquiries;
o Attend industry conventions, sitting in on client meetings and shadowing
the Director and Coordinator;
o Research and create seasonal rights guides;
o Research rights’ status and rights’ sales opportunities for backlist
titles;
o Follow up on outstanding sales reports with foreign partners
o Compile rights and copyright information for titles both old and new
o Maintaining the international editions library
Many of these tasks are extremely teachable, and very niche, so specific prior
experience is not required, though skill with Excel and attention to detail
are mandatory.

Length of Internship:
Ideally, the internship will span two semesters (or three quarters) but if
necessary, just one.
Requirements:
Qualified candidates are students interested in the business side of
publishing who are very organized and detail-oriented, including at least some
database experience. The ability to multitask and prioritize projects is
crucial, and candidates should also be comfortable interacting with various
departments and foreign publishers to gather information as necessary. Must be
able to work independently. The candidate should be able to handle
confidential information, and be willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
Foreign languages skills are not necessary - but business level fluency of
another language is a plus. A passion for comic books is a huge plus.
This position provides rare hand-on, behind-the-scenes experience in the
publishing and comic book industries and is a fantastic learning experience.
