Description:

  • The College Connections program is seeking approximately 6 Peer Academic Coaches for the Fall 2018 semester to support cohorts of approximately 25 first-year students. In addition to meeting with students during bi-weekly 30-minute appointments, coaches serve as teaching assistants for UNIV 1050: College Student Success. Coaches assist students as they develop and strengthen skills that promote resilience, confidence, and self-directed learning.

Such skills include…

  • Clarifying academic goals and practical steps towards these goals
  • Building motivation, self-confidence, and accountability,
  • Implementing routines for organization and time management,
  • Strengthening study skills (i.e. reading comprehension, note-taking, review, and test-taking strategies),
  • Accessing resources, and
  • Adapting to new challenges.

Qualifications:

  • Sophomore status or higher
  • 3.25 GPA or higher
  • Full-time student at SUU
  • FERPA training and certification required upon hire
  • Secondary Education majors desired
