Location: Cedar Breaks National Monument (***meets in Cedar City, Utah)

Overview: Challenge yourself as a member of youth crew while conducting career oriented work in relation to natural resources and outdoor recreation in some of the most beautiful places in the region! As a Youth Crew Member, you will be participating in a high school-aged crew with a college aged Crew Leader focused on re-vegetation, facilities maintenance, restoration, wildlife, recreation, and other exciting projects. Through this experiential learning internship, students will develop a connection to place, become engaged citizens of their community, and stewards of the land.

***Preference will be given to youth who identify as a member of a Native American Tribe. The Ancestral lands model is rooted in the culture and heritage of local tribe communities. The power and impact on Ancestral Lands programming is due to the community investment and support for each program tribally and locally, combined with the network of operational support from the IIC.

Dates: May 29th 2018- August 9th 2018 Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 10 Hrs/Day, 7am-5pm Training: May 29th-31st 2018 (paid) Holidays: July 4th, 5th & 24th 2018 (not paid)

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Commitment to safety and completion of assigned projects.
  2. Follow assigned tasks correctly and in timely manner.
  3. Adhere to all rules and regulations as stated in the IIC Intern Guidebook.
  4. Work 10 hour days outside in a variety of weather and terrain.
  5. Be respectful and considerate to all team members, land managers and visitors.

Qualifications:

Crew Member Requirements:

  1. Attend and complete in good standing a 3-Day training alongside other crew members.
  2. Must be at least 16-18 years old with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  3. Outdoor and natural resource experience and interest is strongly preferred.
  4. Have a positive attitude, flexibility and commitment to the program.
  5. Basic knowledge of tools, ability to lift 25 lbs. minimum, and able to hike long distances.
