Description:

THIS INTERNSHIP IS BASED AT Dixie National Forest; Powell Ranger District in Panguitch UT

The primary responsibilities of this position include trail maintenance, repair and construction, visitor contacts, resource monitoring and facilities maintenance. This position is an important part of the overall recreation program on the Powell Ranger District.
Additional duties may be assigned as needed and could include work related to Range Management, Timber Management, Wildland Fire, Wildlife, Visitor Assistance, Outdoor Education and so on. Some work may also be performed on the Escalante Ranger District. Weekend work and an occasional overnight may be needed. This job will run from the end of May to the beginning of August.

Qualifications:

A willingness to learn, work well with others, follow directions, ability to be prompt and courteous, a commitment to safety and hard work as well as good communication skills. A valid driver’s license is required and previous experience with some or all of the following is helpful: hand tools, chainsaws, ATVs, UTVs, GPS and other small equipment. Training will be provided as needed. This work requires walking and climbing in steep, uneven terrain, exposure to adverse weather and insects, performing physical labor, bending, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds or more.

ALL IIC INTERNSHIPS ARE REQUIRED TO BE TIED TO THE EARNING OF AN ACADEMIC CREDIT. Credits can be EDGE projects, departmental internships, cooperative education, practicums, assignments, research, etc.
