Description:
An Tobacco Free Campus (TFC) Lead Peer's primary function is to educate, implement and encourage a Tobacco Free Policy through ongoing peer-to-peer interaction. The TFC Lead Peer shows leadership, professionalism, compassion and the desire to promote and celebrate a healthier campus.
TBC Lead Peer must develop a thorough understanding of a Tobacco Free policy that is best suited for SUU campus as well as the array of cessation resources available for students, staff, faculty and where to find them.
One of the most important roles the TFC Lead Peer plays is gaining support from student leaders, such as students who sit on the governing board.
The TFC Lead Peer will be trained to use data gathered from the student body and presenting the data to campus officials, student leaders, faculty and staff. TFC Lead Peer will participate in observation, role play, peer feedback, and continual mentoring as they fine tune their presentation skills. We want to ensure that a consistent message is used with everyone on campus and that TFC Lead Peer is confident in responding to a variety of questions and scenarios.
The TFC Lead Peer will receive comprehensive training including:
Trends in smoke and tobacco-free policies on other campuses
Emerging trends in smoking and tobacco use, including the dramatic rise in e-cigarette use
Tobacco and social justice
New and innovative anti-tobacco marketing campaigns
Duties and Responsibilities:
Attend weekly meetings and complete all training modules
Marketing and messaging campaigns; occasional outreach and tabling
Represent Peer Health Educators (students) by attending Smoke and Tobacco Free Coalition Meetings
Educating the campus community about the the importance of a tobacco free campus policy and encouraging a culture of compliance
Peer-to-peer communication
Conduct environmental scans

Qualifications:
Expectation of a TFC Lead Peer
15 hour per week commitment through Fall and Spring semesters
Attend all training sessions and weekly meetings
Reliable and good with time management

Passionate about creating a Tobacco Free Campus policy, able to communicate (both oral and written) effectively, firm but compassionate, friendly, trustworthy, able to multi-task, works well with others, pays attention to detail, and takes initiative.
