THIS POSITION IS LOCATED AT PIPE SPRING NATIONAL MONUMENT IN FREDONIA

The position is in with the Cultural Resource Program. The position will focus on preventative museum conservation but may include opportunities to work in other museum areas such as exhibits, research, and education. The tasks and responsibilities for this position include: cleaning and care of museum objects following recommendations of a conservator as well as museum housekeeping, and museum registration, as needed. The intern will assist staff with documentation and preparation of items to be cleaned and photography of the items during the course of the project. There will be opportunities for the intern to work on a field project with other staff members, conduct individual research, attend educational events, and receive training and guidance from local experts.

Weekly Work Schedule: October – April (20 hours/week) Schedule may include weekends and holidays. Start/end dates are flexible.

Housing: Park housing may be available, intern is responsible for cost of housing ($350/month)

Qualifications:

The candidate will ideally have strong writing ability, attention to detail, excellent manual dexterity, proven ability to use art tools and materials, ability to receive specific instructions and apply them to tasks involving museum objects, proficiency with Microsoft programs, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and excellent time management skills. Candidates with an interest in working in the museum field are preferred. Academic disciplines and areas of interest related to this position: museum studies, library science, history, public history, archeology, anthropology, art, and art history.

ALL IIC INTERNSHIPS ARE REQUIRED TO BE TIED TO THE EARNING OF AN ACADEMIC CREDIT. Credits can be EDGE projects, departmental internships, cooperative education, practicums, assignments, research, etc.
