Multicultural Student History Research Intern
The Center for Diversity and Inclusion, in partnership with the Gerald R. Sheratt Library, are seeking a paid student intern to execute a Multicultural Student History Project. The student intern will work under the guidance of Paula Mitchell to research and write short articles about the history of multicultural students at Southern Utah University. The articles will be featured on the Center for Diversity and Inclusion website. Applicants should be self-motivated and inquisitive with excellent verbal and written intercultural communication skills. Applicants must be available to work up to ten hours Monday through Friday between 10 AM and 5 PM in the Gerald R. Sheratt Library Special Collections. Priority will be given to applicants with experience working with historically marginalized populations and/or major(s) in the humanities/social sciences. Job Responsibilities:
- Analyze the materials about multicultural students in the Special Collections of the Gerald R. Sheratt Library to create a timeline of important people, events, and traditions
- Scan, organize, and digitize important artifacts highlighting multicultural student history
- Write short historical articles highlighting multicultural student history
- Coordinate with Alumni and Community Relations to conduct interviews with alumni, as necessary
- Attend meetings with Paula Mitchell and Willy Palomo to receive guidance and direction, as necessary
- Present findings at the Festival of Excellence or another educational event
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Intellectual curiosity and interest in writing
- A passion for issues related to diversity and inclusion
- A propensity to take initiative, be self-directed, and solve problems as they arise
- Possess creativity
- Excellent written and oral communication
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Be a SUU student
- Have a minimum of 3.0 Cumulative GPA to be hired and maintain a 3.0+ GPA each semester while you are employed by the CDI
- Have completed at least one semester at SUU
- Be available to work 10 hours per week spring semester, Monday through Friday between 10 AM and 5 PM in the Gerald R. Sheratt Library Special Collections
- Available to attend weekly CDI staff meetings.
