Location Kanab & Paria, Utah

Overview:

These (4) four internships will assist Visitor Services staff at the Paria Contact Station and Kanab Visitor Centers. Interns will assist Recreation Staff with the Coyote Buttes Lottery. Interns will provide oral and printed information to visitors including recreational opportunities, safety messages, travel orientation, resource protection, and regional points of interest. Interns may assist in the development and facilitation of educational presentations and event support. Other duties to be performed include, but are not limited to, occasional outdoor work. This position may require working on weekends and limited overnight travel. Must provide own living quarters. Duty Stations are in rural communities with limited services available.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Answering visitor inquiries
  • Selling Glen Canyon Conservancy educational inventory and accounting for funds
  • Refilling pamphlets and cleaning the facility
  • Development and implementation of STEM- based Every Kid in Park educational programs and general public interpretive presentations relevant to the region
  • Provide booth staffing for regional community events
  • Occasional outdoor activities, which would require bending, lifting, and hiking, including grounds maintenance, assisting with recreation site and trails projects
  • Monitoring and documenting lottery participation and visitor center use
  • Use Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) (Training provided).

Qualifications:

  • Good customer service skills
  • Experience with sales transactions and handling money
  • Ability to work in remote locations under a wide variety of weather conditions
  • Perform strenuous physical exertion including, but not limited to, hiking, lifting, carrying, bending, biking, walking and standing
  • Good oral communication skills and tact for face-to-face contacts with the public
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Background check required upon selection.
