Location:Great Basin National Park, Baker Nevada. Great Basin National Park is an isolated park located in east-central Nevada just off of U.S. Highway 6 & 50 near the Utah border. Summer temperatures may reach 100 degrees at the lower elevations and mid-80's in the higher elevations. Though the park is located in the middle of the Great Basin Desert, it is a mountain park with beautiful streams, lakes, and ancient bristlecone pine groves. Baker, a small town of a population approximately of 100, is located five miles from the main park entrance. The park is located approximately 2.5 hours northwest of Cedar City. Overview:

The Visitor Services Intern at Great Basin National Park, performs many of the same functions as our seasonal interpretive park rangers. Interns are an important part of our team, researching our site and providing tours and accurate information to our summer season visitors. Interns gain valuable experience with customer service, fees, public speaking, and immersion into the park's natural and historic resources, as well as the NPS mission.

Housing is provided. The Intern will work 9-hour days with a two day and a three day weekend, every two week pay period.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide visitor services at the front desk of the Lehman Caves Visitor Center, answer questions, provide information, operate A/V equipment and open and close the building.
  • Serve as a fee collector, selling cave tour tickets, federal public land passes and bookstore sales items. A federal background check is required.
  • Provide interpretive and educational programs, including but not limited to, cave tours and school programs.
  • Assist with Park communications through written and verbal means such as informal visitor contacts, visitor education, social media postings, and press releases.
  • Assisting with special projects as they arise.

Qualifications:

  • Comfortable talking with visitors
  • Good writing skills and research skills
  • Comfortable operating A/V equipment
  • Excited about the Public Lands and a willingness to learn
