Description:

Tutors help students understand course material, review for tests, and develop study skills and test-taking strategies. Tutors bring experience, expertise, and enthusiasm to studying and are recommended by SUU faculty.

Nearly 80% of tutoring requests are for math and chemistry. Therefore, math and chemistry tutors are primarily needed at this time. Other subjects served include economics, accounting, biology, physics, nutrition, psychology, history, and more.

Tutors assist students in the Tutoring Center (ELC 204) with walk-in and scheduled one-on-one tutoring. Small group tutoring is also offered through Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) Groups which are held in SUU classrooms.

Qualifications:

  • 3.50 or better cumulative GPA (3.75 or better preferred).
  • Earned A or A- in courses you wish to tutor (test out/skip acceptable for some lower-level courses).
  • Completed at least one semester at SUU.
  • Recommendation of at least two SUU faculty members.
  • Excel at working with peers in a cooperative learning environment.
  • Enjoy helping others to learn.
  • Strong work ethic.
