Description:
Lab technicians for the SUU Center for Music Technology (CMT) serve as both a technology tutor for students using the lab, and as a technician to maintain and update the software and hardware as directed. Lab technicians are also the first line of security for the CMT. Technicians carefully monitor the door to the CMT, and are aware of who is present in the building. Lab technicians also may be assigned to record/stream events that take place in the Thorley Recital Hall at the SUU Music Building.
CMT Lab hours are typically:
i. Mon-Thurs from 5:00pm-10:00pm
ii. Friday from 4:00pm-8:00pm
iii. Saturday from 10:00am-4:00pm
iv. Sunday from 12:00pm-6:00pm
Qualifications:
Prior music technology experience is preferred, but training is available to students without it. Students will learn to use notation software and digital audio software.
- Lab technicians should be prompt for the start of their work shift
- Lab technicians prepare the lab for any classes that are to be held in the space
- Lab technicians act as technology tutors for students using the lab space
- Lab technicians update software and maintain equipment as directed
- Lab technicians who are the first in the building for the day will check the status of the lab, report anything missing, unusual or significantly out of place, and power up the lab computers at each station.
- Lab technicians who are last out of the building will power down the computers at each station (unless downloading of software is in progress). “Last out” lab technicians also check the doors and lights to make certain that the lab is secure prior to leaving.
- Lab technicians are the first line of security for the Center for Music Technology (CMT). Technicians should carefully monitor the door to the CMT, and are aware of who is present in the building.
- If spaces other than the lab are in use, technicians monitor the activities in these rooms. Otherwise, those spaces should be locked.
