Description:

Southern Utah University’s Health and Wellness Graduate Assistant will report directly to the Coordinator of Health & Wellness, and represent the Recreation and Wellness Department. The Graduate Assistant (GA) will support the Health & Wellness Center in its efforts to promote healthy minds, healthy bodies, healthy relationships, and enhance the overall well-being and holistic health of our campus community. The GA will provide leadership as well as, assisting students in locating the proper resources to address any health and wellness concern including; mental health, physical health, substance abuse, sexual health choices, and managing stress. The GA will assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating health promotion programs and activities on these and other health & wellness topics.

Qualifications:

  • Work up to but no more than 20 hours per week at the front desk, greeting and directing people that come into the Health & Wellness Center.

  • Preference will be given to upperclassmen (junior, senior, graduate) with a major in psychology, sociology, and those who have health & wellness experience and/or who would like to pursue a career in medical health, counseling, education, student development, or a related field.

  • Demonstrate ability to assist students on a variety of holistic health and wellness issues.

  • Excellent skills in facilitation, education, and communication.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relations with other campus and community resources.

  • Ability to work independently, follow-up on assignments, and take initiative on projects.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement trainings/presentations/programs promoting a culture of wellness to students, faculty, and staff; collaborate with other campus departments as needed.

  • Assist in the development and dissemination of health communication materials, including using social media to publicize Health & Wellness events and distribute wellness information.

  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and promotion of Health & Wellness Center campus-wide programs, including but not limited to; stress, alcohol and other drugs, sexual health, fitness, healthy eating, sexual assault and dating violence, and tobacco cessation (e.g., health fairs, alcohol awareness week, and Great American Smokeout).
