Description:
Students often enroll in college with a very limited understanding of the financial realities of paying for college, anticipating expenses, how to save and why it is important, tracking and monitoring spending, identifying needs vs. wants, creating and sticking to a budget, the good and bad of loans/credit cards, and utilizing financial resources on campus. The Financial Wellness Intern will work closely with the Coordinator of Financial Literacy and Completion in developing, implementing, and facilitating a wide array of duties, initiatives and programs that enhance students' financial awareness and literacy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Meet one-on-one with students and their families during personalized visits in order to identify their needs and goals and recommend financial best practices and products to support them.
Reach out to students who note on their TTQ that they would like to like to talk to someone at SUU about financing their education.
Analyze and attempt to develop mechanisms for identifying students who may face financial hardships while at SUU.
Table around campus to engage students in conversations about their financial wellness.
Develop and implement awareness campaigns to support SUU in becoming a financially open and conversational campus.
Research student financial resources and literacy issues pertaining to SUU students and develop financial literacy education content to be shared with incoming and current students, parents, faculty, and staff.
Provide financial literacy training to any/all interested parties (i.e. departments, clubs, classes, etc).
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Qualifications
Be a junior or senior with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
Be attending SUU in the summer and enrolled in a minimum of 3 credits face-to-face courses
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of a Personal Finance course is greatly beneficial.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students, staff and community members.
Knowledge of financial literacy, budgeting/debt reduction, savings and investing basics, problem-solving, etc.
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills
