Description:
This internship will involve the SUU student serving as a research assistant and cultural liaison to the Piaute tribe under Dr. Johnson-Pynn's mentor-ship. The student will 1) meet with tribal leaders and SUU faculty in biological and geo-sciences to conduct a needs assessment of priority environmental issues to include in environmental education (EE); 2) partner with SUU Native American Student Association members to design EE curricula that incorporates Traditional Environmental Knowledge and scientific methods; 3) gather and analyze cultural and scientific data with Piaute youth using mixed methods research.
Qualifications:
Experience with any of the following: Membership in NASA; classes in psychology, sociology, anthropology or the geo/biological science
You must be in enrolled in a 3 credit summer course that is face to face. On line and internships do not count.
