General Summary

Southern Utah University and the Department of Athletics is seeking qualified Marketing and Promotions Interns to begin on May 11, 2020 and end in mid August to assist in all aspects of marketing and promoting Southern Utah University’s NCAA Division I 17-sport athletics programs. The Marketing Assistant is a part-time (10 hours per week), summer semester position. The Marketing Assistant will be an essential member of the department’s external operations staff with an emphasis on maximizing fan engagement, ticket sales, and branding efforts. You must be enrolled in at least 3 face to face credits during the summer to be eligible for this position. This internship is also available for class credit. Positions are open until filled.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist the SUU Athletic Marketing staff in the development, coordination and implementation of marketing and promotional efforts for each Division I sport on campus with specific focus on a few assigned sports, including but not limited to:

  • Preparing the marketing and promotions schedule for home events
  • Engaging the community during the summer to build our brand
  • Collaborating with full time staff to identify and implement grassroots marketing activities
  • Designing promotional graphics for use in email marketing, digital and social media platforms
  • Directing game entertainment by producing game scripts, assembling music playlists and managing marketing displays
  • Support ticket sales and fan entertainment strategies for the Southern Utah football, gymnastics, men’s and women’s basketball programs
  • Assist with the management of key marketing platforms such as student fan clubs
  • Utilize official social media outlets to engage fans by delivering entertaining and informative content
  • Coordinate the fulfillment of sponsorship, development, ticketing and merchandise needs to help maximize all revenue sources
  • Cultivate relationships with campus and community organizations to increase local support of all SUU athletic programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Skills

  • Majoring or interested in marketing and communication
  • Willing to learn how to use Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), working knowledge is preferred
  • Experience with the planning and execution of marketing events.
  • Good human relation and organizational skills; desire to be creative and grow with a rapidly changing and developing athletic program.
  • Previous social media experience preferred.
  • Ability to work well with the public, administration and students.
  • Customer service and/or marketing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to NCAA rules.

Experience

  • Experience with graphic design
  • Experience with creating and managing game timing & scripts
  • Experience with the planning and execution of marketing events.
  • Basic understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of computer based applications.
  • The ability to work a non-standard work week including nights, weekends & holidays.
  • Experience working with communications and development preferred.
