Description:

Under the direction of the Sr. Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs, the development assistant will assist with stewardship and annual giving campaigns. The Development Assistant will promote revenue generation and encourage philanthropic engagement to support the student-athlete experience. This position has a high emphasis on sales and relationship building.

Responsibilities:

  1. Be active in soliciting new annual fund members to the Thunderbird Athletic Foundation.
  2. Identify, cultivate and ultimately solicit lapsed donors at the $50-500 levels.
  3. Research and implement strategies, programs, and best practices to increase philanthropic revenues to support and enhance the student-athlete experience.
  4. Assist development officers in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals for gifts to SUU Athletics. Enhance and update athletic donor contact information and assist in contact entries.
  5. Assist in the implementation and management stewardship program, including annual membership benefits fulfillment, monthly e-newsletter, acknowledgment letters, gift receipts, and anything else that may enhance the donor experience.
  6. Partner with the Southern Utah Foundation annual fund staff on special appeals, alumni association functions, and annual fund initiatives.
  7. Participate in various departmental activities, including aiding in the staffing of development functions at athletics events.

Qualifications:

  1. Students must be enrolled in one, three-credit class at Southern Utah University. The three-credit class must not be online.
  2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent writing and editing skills.
  3. Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
  4. Highly developed organizational skills, including the ability to work under pressure to handle multiple prospects and requests, and meet competing deadlines.
  5. Ability to foster positive interpersonal relationships and professional image with external and internal constituencies by adhering to customer service standards.
  6. Commitment to following NCAA rules.

This position may be used as a summer internship with approval from a faculty sponsor in accordance with SUU Policy 6.3
