Description:

This is a summer internship running from April 27 from September 11th

This position will work closely with the Coordinator of Orientation and First-Year Experience on various special projects to support the First-Year Experience Office such as, but not limited to:

  • Preparing new student orientation materials such as folding t-shirts, compiling welcome folders, attaching lanyards, etc.

  • Assisting in the creation of fundraising packages for new student orientation (Thunder U).

  • Fundraising in the local community for new student orientation (Thunder U).

  • Assisting in the implementation of anti-melt initiatives to ensure students don't withdraw over the summer, such as hand written postcards, etc.

  • Assisting in the facilitation of small campus events and meetups in The Nest.

  • Updating the whiteboard calendar of events in The Nest.

  • Assisting in the implementation of window campaigns in The Nest through painting and/or posters.

  • Assisting with classroom tours during Personalized Visits if needed.

Qualifications:

This position is only available to undergraduate students who are enrolled at Southern Utah University (SUU) for a minimum of 3 face-to-face credits over the summer. Online courses and internship credits will not count.

  • Proven self-motivation and organizational abilities to plan and independently execute projects/tasks within specific deadlines, and while exercising good judgment, successfully assess, balance, and prioritize numerous competing concerns.

  • Experience planning and implementing campus programming.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students, parents, and families.

  • Outstanding written, verbal and interpersonal skills - excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills to include proven effectiveness in speaking on a one-on-one basis and making oral presentations before groups.

  • Ability to diffuse difficult and frustrating situations.

  • Experience leading and motivating campus partners outside of the organization and local community members to create successful partnerships, programs, and initiatives.

  • Possess a commitment to all students and their total development, both curricular and co-curricular.

  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality in records and communication.

  • Enthusiasm for working with all students.
