Description:
Student interns are sought to assist in a Cedar City area noise study. These intern positions will assist in an aircraft noise and community noise study for the Cedar City area. Interns will be trained in the collection of community-noise data as well as specific characteristics associated with aircraft noise. Once trained, interns will be responsible for data collection and post-processing of data. Interns will work with the project mentor and aviation personnel to correlate noise measurements with aircraft flight conditions and position. The work will be documented with a final report and presentation (which may lead to or be part of papers suitable for publication).
Qualifications:
Students should have a demonstrated understanding of:
- Physics (PHYS 2210 or equivalent) and math (MATH 1210 minimum)
- Communication skills sufficient for writing technical reports
- Programming skills (Matlab or equivalent experience or applicants may take ENGR 2170 over the summer)
Other Requirements:
- Successful applicants must be able to carry equipment to field locations (10 lb) and remain outdoors for potentially 3 - 4 hours once to twice a week.
- Ability to drive to various locations around Cedar City for placement and monitoring of equipment.
