Description:

Research Assistant to assist with SUU IRB approved research on “Bhutanese Refugees and their Journey to the U.S.” The research assistant’s main task is to transcribe and translate audio-recorded interviews from Nepali to English in a written form. There are 28 audio-recorded interviews. The length of the interviews range from 90 to 150 minutes.

Job duties include:

  • Transcribe all audio recordings in Nepali
  • Translate all audio recordings from Nepali to English
  • Maintain and protect audio recorded data
  • Submit weekly work or work-in-progress to the principal investigator
  • Upon the completion of the work, return all the recorded data to the principal investigator

Note: The total hours for transcribing and translating each recorded interview will depend on its length. It may take about 6/7 hours for 90-minute interviews and 10/11 hours for 140-minute interviews. This is just an estimate.

Qualifications:

Job Requirements:

  • Fluent in Nepali and English language
  • Should have a good command of different dialects and vocabularies within Nepali language
  • Proficient with MAC, Word, audio-recording devices, and other technical devices
  • Good communication skills, in particular listening and typing (minimum 50 words per minute)
  • Must be a responsible and organized professional, who can complete all the assigned work on time
  • The interviews are confidential and highly sensitive in nature. The research assistant must understand this and maintain ethical responsibility to protect the identities of the research participants.
