Description:
The Graduate Writing Center (GWC) welcomes all graduate students and offers them the opportunity to discuss their writing projects with trained consultants and receive constructive feedback to enhance their skills, knowledge, and overall confidence with writing, research, and academic or professional genres. The Graduate Writing Consultant provides writing feedback and support to SUU graduate students through tutoring sessions, workshops, and other resources offered by the GWC.
General Duties and Responsibilities
The Graduate Writing Consultant will
- Conduct one-on-one and small-group online tutoring sessions with graduate students from various disciplines
- Provide constructive feedback on academic as well as professional writing projects in a variety of genres
- Maintain accurate records of sessions
- Assist graduate students with scheduling appointments and respond to inquiries about appointments and services
- Attend and participate in required trainings and meetings
- Communicate and consult regularly with the Director of the Graduate Writing Center (and with SUU faculty, as needed)
- Assist the Director of the Graduate Writing Center with special projects such as marketing/outreach, writing workshops and webinars, or program development as needed
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
Education/Experience
- SUU graduate student, SUU Graduate Bridge student, or recent SUU graduate
- Experienced in providing constructive feedback on academic writing
- Experienced in working with adult learners
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
- Strong writing skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in APA format and style (APA 7th edition preferred)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and dependability
- Able to engage with graduate students in online formats
- Able to access a reliable internet connection and audio/visual equipment for online sessions
- Proficient with essential Google Suite applications
Preferred Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Experienced in working as a writing tutor, writing fellow, TA, or college instructor
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
- Able to work a flexible schedule during peak times (including evenings and weekends, if needed)
- Proficient with Zoom and Google video/interactive meeting platforms
