Description:

General Summary:

Southern Utah University and the Department of Athletics are seeking a qualified Sports Information & Communication Graduate Assistant to begin at the start of the 2021-22 academic year. The hired candidate will assist in all communication-related aspects of Southern Utah University’s 13 NCAA Division I athletics programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as the primary media contact for 3-4 assigned sports and provide secondary support to other teams as assigned by the Assistant AD or Director of Strategic Communication
  2. Oversee and perform/assign game-day operations related to media, press box, scorer’s table, game statistics, online streaming, and pre/postgame press conferences for assigned sports
  3. Oversee maintenance of the athletic website, suutbirds.com, including but not limited to posting/updating schedules, rosters, student-athlete & staff bios and keeping the record book up to date
  4. Produce regular press releases (event previews, recaps, and other news) in order to enhance the brand and tell the stories of SUU Athletics
  5. Use social media to promote individual teams and SUU Athletics as a whole
  6. Handle all requests from outside media sources for interviews, statements, and credential distribution
  7. Work collaboratively with the University's public relations office and alumni office on all athletic-related news stories and events
  8. Night and weekend work is required. Travel may be required on rare occasion
  9. Other duties as assigned

Compensation:

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  1. Completion of a bachelor’s degree
  2. Be admitted to one of SUU’s graduate programs
  3. Excellent writing, editing and communication skills
  4. Proven ability to handle high-stress situations and juggle multiple responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Previous experience working in a sports information office or college athletics setting
  2. Experience using stat-keeping programs such as Genius, StatCrew etc.
  3. Proven ability to promote a brand or product through social media
