General Summary:
Southern Utah University and the Department of Athletics are seeking a qualified Sports Information & Communication Graduate Assistant to begin at the start of the 2021-22 academic year. The hired candidate will assist in all communication-related aspects of Southern Utah University’s 13 NCAA Division I athletics programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary media contact for 3-4 assigned sports and provide secondary support to other teams as assigned by the Assistant AD or Director of Strategic Communication
- Oversee and perform/assign game-day operations related to media, press box, scorer’s table, game statistics, online streaming, and pre/postgame press conferences for assigned sports
- Oversee maintenance of the athletic website, suutbirds.com, including but not limited to posting/updating schedules, rosters, student-athlete & staff bios and keeping the record book up to date
- Produce regular press releases (event previews, recaps, and other news) in order to enhance the brand and tell the stories of SUU Athletics
- Use social media to promote individual teams and SUU Athletics as a whole
- Handle all requests from outside media sources for interviews, statements, and credential distribution
- Work collaboratively with the University's public relations office and alumni office on all athletic-related news stories and events
- Night and weekend work is required. Travel may be required on rare occasion

Compensation:

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree
- Be admitted to one of SUU’s graduate programs
- Excellent writing, editing and communication skills
- Proven ability to handle high-stress situations and juggle multiple responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a sports information office or college athletics setting
- Experience using stat-keeping programs such as Genius, StatCrew etc.
- Proven ability to promote a brand or product through social media
