Description:

The Financial Wellness Center is looking for a bright, motivated, and talented student to join us as a Financial Wellness Coach. Financial Wellness Coaches are fellow students dedicated to making change for SUU students by improving their finances, which in turn improves their lives and the likelihood of them earning their degree from SUU.

Attending college can be an overwhelming process, and financial obstacles are a reality that many students face. Our SUU Financial Wellness team is dedicated to promoting a culture of financial well-being by providing students and families with the financial tools needed to succeed in their academics and beyond. We take pride in helping others to understand their financial options and to establish life skills on a personalized level.

The Financial Wellness Center helps students with a variety of financial questions, concerns, and situations. We help students with:

  • One-on-One Financial Counseling Session
  • Budgeting and Financial Goal Setting
  • Understanding FAFSA, Your Aid Package, and Costs of Attendance
  • Loan Repayment after Graduation
  • Coaching on Private Scholarship Search and Applications
  • Counseling on Dealing with Debt
  • Support with Understanding and Managing Student Loans
  • Help Responding to an Unexpected Life Event

The position will begin as a paid internship in the spring semester and may then transition to full time employment in the summer semester upon successful completion of the internship. Ability to work during the summer is essential and the position is a year long commitment. If you have other commitments, plans, or inclinations to work other jobs, internships, and/or other experiences planned for this year, please do not apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Consult with students in one-on-one meetings about their finances
  • In the summer months, meet with every incoming freshman and their families to discuss their finances and plan for school.
  • Participate in and host financial literacy workshops around campus
  • Guest lecture at classes, clubs, and events.
  • Identify and reach out to students who may have an interest in or struggling with financial wellness
  • Table around campus to engage students in conversations about their financial wellness.
  • Design and develop resources for students, faculty, and staff to reference
  • Participate in calling campaigns, registration efforts and many other activities to ensure that all SUU students receive the support they need to be successful at SUU.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • You are available to work for one year (Jan 2022 - Jan 2023). If you cannot work the entire year for any reason, please do not apply.
  • You are a self-starter and learn quickly.
  • You care for others and are comfortable having important conversations with fellow students.
  • You know that in helping students understand their finances you’ll change their lives.
  • You fail and you learn from your mistakes.
  • You understand this is a year long commitment, if you are planning to study abroad, complete an internship, etc., please do not apply.
